Training & Timing
There is no fixed answer, and anyone who gives you one without seeing you drive is guessing. CBT&A is competency based — you are signed off when you can do the job, not after a set number of hours.
What we do is start with an assessment drive. From that we can tell you realistically how many lessons you are likely to need. Drivers with manual and towing experience usually need fewer; drivers coming straight from an automatic car usually need more.
Yes. We train seven days a week, including weekends and flexible times, specifically so drivers can train without taking leave or losing shifts.
No truck experience is needed. You do need a current car licence, held for long enough to qualify for the class you want — generally one year for LR and MR, and two years for HR, though this varies by state.
Yes. Lessons and assessment are conducted in our vehicle, matched to the class you are working towards.
Licences & Assessment
It depends on the vehicle you want to drive:
- LR — rigid vehicles over 4.5t up to 8t GVM, and light buses
- MR — rigid vehicles with 2 axles over 8t GVM
- HR — rigid vehicles with 3 or more axles over 8t GVM, plus buses

Competency Based Training and Assessment. Instead of one pass-or-fail driving test on a booked date, you are assessed progressively against units of competency while you train, with a final assessment by an authorised examiner. Our Government Examiners are authorised CBT&A examiners, so your training and assessment happen in the same place, in the same truck.
You do not "fail". Any unit not yet achieved is identified, you practise it, and it is reassessed. That is how competency based assessment is designed to work.
If you are assessed in an automatic heavy vehicle, your heavy vehicle licence may carry an automatic-only condition. The rules differ between states, so ask us before you book and we will explain exactly what applies to you.
It usually cannot be transferred directly, but genuine overseas heavy vehicle experience often means you need far fewer lessons. Bring your licence and any employment letters along and we will plan around what you can actually do.

Because the number of lessons depends on your ability, we quote after the assessment drive rather than advertising a single figure that would be wrong for most people.
